Kansas - Closet Chronicles

A song written by Steve Walsh and Kerry Livgren Artist: Kansas Album: Point Of Know Return Year: 1977 Lyrics: Once carried through the current And being swept away The king is in the closet He's hiding from today And though he owns all fortunes This room is where he'll stay And his world is filled with darkness, turning grey Gazing out the window Of the 42nd second floor He is separate from all others No one knocks upon his door And it might as well be raining 'cause the sunlight hurts his eyes And his ears will never hear the children's cries Once proud and full of passion He fought the cause of man Many people loved his courage Many followed his command He changed the old into the new And the course of things to come And then one day they noticed he was gone At first it didn't matter Nobody seemed to care They all became too busy To find him anywhere do no one knew hot even him The problems he would find On the day he journeyed deep into his mind I close my eyes I go far away Away from this battlefield In my dreams well here I will enjoy it Where innocence plays with all the laughing children The kind who are crying right now A taste of freedom from the pain Of everything here I see Life is sweet but I took it all for granted And now I don't know if I could even tell you Just what we permit, we allow Allow me to forget the life I've made my own I've held this nation in my hand And yet it's not my home Allow me just one answer just one reason why Why this refugee of the <b>...</b>

The Geomagnetic Storm at Perry Lake, Kansas

On Monday, October 24th, 2011, at approximately 1:00 PM, Earth was struck by a coronal mass ejection. The impact strongly compressed Earth's magnetic field and sparked an intense geomagnetic storm. As night fell over North America, Auroras spilled across the Canadian border into the contiguous United States. In a rare, historic reverberation, the storm pushed south into Kansas. Photographer Stephen Locke documented the event from Perry Lake, northeast of Topeka. ... Typically restricted to the polar regions, blazing red "Northern Lights" were ultimately observed deep into the southern tier of the continental United States, with parts of Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia receiving their once in a generation glimpse of this astronomical phenomenon . Kansas - Song For America

A song written by Kerry Livgren Artist: Kansas Album: Song For America Year: 1975 Lyrics: Virgin land of forest green Dark and stormy plain Here all life abounds Sunlit valley, mountain fields Unseen in the rain Here all life abounds No man rules this land No human hand has soiled this paradise Waiting patiently So much to see So rich in Earth's delights Painted desert, sequined sky Stars that fill the night Here all life abounds Rivers flowing to the sea Sunshine pure and bright Here all life abounds No man rules this land No human hand has soiled this paradise Waiting patiently So much to see So rich in Earth's delights So the maiden lies in waiting Pull the sailor into shore Land of beauty and abundance Innocent, you opened wide your door Wanderers found the waiting treasure Full of gifts beyond their measure Milk and Honey for our pleasure Across the sea there came a multitude Sailing ships upon the wave Filled with visions of Utopia And the freedom that they crave Ravage, plunder, see no wonder Rape and kill and tear asunder Chop the forest, plow it under Highways scar the mountainside Buildings to the sky People all around Unsustaining in these roads See an eternity People all around So we rule this land And here we stand Upon our paradise Dreaming of a place Our weary race Is ready to arise

Kansas - Carry On Wayward Son (Lyrics)

Song - Carry On Wayward Son Artsit - Kansas Album - Rock band 2 Soundtrack Lyrics: Carry on my wayward son, There'll be peace when you are done Lay your weary head to rest Don't you cry no more Once I rose above the noise and confusion Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion I was soaring ever higher, but I flew too high Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man Though my mind could think I still was a mad man I hear the voices when I'm dreamin', I can hear them say: Carry on my wayward son, There'll be peace when you are done Lay your weary head to rest Don't you cry no more Masquerading as a man with a reason My charade is the event of the season And if I claim to be a wise man, it surely means that I don't know On a stormy sea of moving emotion Tossed about I'm like a ship on the ocean I set a course for winds of fortune, but I hear the voices say: Carry on my wayward son, There'll be peace when you are done Lay your weary head to rest Don't you cry no more NO! Carry on, you will always remember Carry on, nothing equals the splendor Now your life's no longer empty Surely heaven waits for you Carry on my wayward son, There'll be peace when you are done Lay your weary head to rest Don't you cry Don't you cry no more

Les Humphries Singers - Kansas City (1974)_HQ

The Les Humphries Singers was a musical group formed in Hamburg, Germany by Englishman Les Humphries in the year 1970. The group consisted of a large number of singers of diverse ethnic origin, some of whom such as John Lawton also performed with other groups. The Les Humphries Singers at the time brought something from the flair of the hippie movement into the hit world. Les Humphries performed a mix of popular music and gospel covers and had success in Europe with this approach. Two of their earliest and best known hits were "Mama Loo" (1973), and "Mexico" (1972) which was based on the 1960 Johnny Horton country hit "The Battle of New Orleans". Additional members included Liz Mitchell, later front woman with Boney M, and John Lawton, who also sang for the German progressive/hard rock band Lucifer's Friend and would go on to be the frontman for Uriah Heep. The Les Humphries Singers dissolved at the end of the 1970s.

(Kansas) Dust In The Wind - Sungha Jung

Sungha www.sunghajung.com arranged and played 'Dust in the wind' by Kansas. "Dust in the Wind" is a hit single released by the American progressive rock band Kansas in 1977. It peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 chart the week of April 22, 1978, making it Kansas' only top ten Billboard Hot 100 charting single. The 45-rpm single was certified gold for sales of one million units by the RIAA shortly after the height of its popularity as a hit single. More than 25 years later, the RIAA certified gold the digital download format of the song, Kansas's only single so certified as of September 17, 2008.[1] Written by Kerry Livgren, it was one of the band's first acoustic tracks; its slow melody and melancholy lyrics differ from their other hits, such as "Carry On Wayward Son" and "The Wall". The guitar part is played by two guitarists on six-string guitars, one in standard tuning and the other in Nashville tuning, in unison to create a chimy sound similar to a twelve-string guitar. The song's instrumental bridge contains a distinctive and highly memorable melodic line and harmony for violin and viola played by Robby Steinhardt. Kansas also released a live version of the song on their album Two for the Show.

Kansas - Apercu

A song written by Kerry Livgren and Steve Walsh Artist: Kansas Album: Kansas Year: 1974 Lyrics: The mist of time is still concealing The vision that I seek Those who died have all borne witness If only they would speak Yet I saw it all inside me, for a moment Were you with me? Have we done it all before, is there really so much more? Now and then we've all been given A glimpse of bygone days I'd give all to see it clearly Not shrouded in the haze Yet I saw it all inside me, for a moment Were you with me? Have we done it all before, is there really so much more? Each man has a memory Much more than the eye can see Yet still others linger deep inside you Haunting thoughts of pain and joy divide you Look beyond your eyes At the dark and moody skies For they're standing in your way And I feel the light of day Now the earth gives forth its secrets Held in mountain sea and plain They have never been forgotten Only locked inside my brain While I slept I had a vision, I remember You were with me We have done it all before, in our minds behind the door

Amazing funnel cloud time-lapse over Topeka, Kansas!

On May 21, 2011, storm chaser/photographer Chad Cowan documented this extremely photogenic supercell in northeast Kansas. In the first part of the video, the wall cloud and funnel(s) were directly over downtown Topeka, and it appeared that Topeka was about to take a direct hit. Luckily, the storm did not produce a tornado until it was northeast of town. After the sun set, Chad dropped south and documented a storm that had developed near Emporia, which produced an EF-3 tornado in the town of Reading where it destroyed over 20 houses. The final shot in this video is of that storm approaching and blacking out the horizon. Shot with the Canon 5D Mark II and 17-40 f/4L wide angle lens.

Kansas - Magnum Opus

From the 1976 album LEFTOVERTURE. Actually the full title of this song is "Magnum Opus a.Father Padilla Meets The Perfect Gnat b.Howling At The Moon c.Man Overboard d.Industry On Parade e.Release The Beavers f.Gnat Attack". It is a collection of leftover bits and pieces from both Walsh and Livgren that were cut and pasted together to make this song. The original title was "Leftoverture", but Dave Hope suggested that would be a better name for the album. When Wally Gold the bands manager, suggested Magnum Opus for the song, the switch was made. All the members were given writing credits. Kansas - The Pinnacle

The Pinnacle A song written by Kerry Livgren Artist: Kansas Album: Masque Year: 1975 Genre: Progressive Rock Lyrics: I've so much to say, and yet I cannot speak Come and do my bidding now for I have grown too weak My weary eyes have seen all that life can give Come to me, O young one, for you I can forgive I stood where no man goes, and conquered demon foes With glory and passion no longer in fashion The hero breaks his blade Cast this shadow long that I may hide my face And in this cloak of darkness the world I will embrace In all that I endure, of one thing I am sure Knowledge and reason change like the season A jester's promenade Lying at my feet I see the offering you bring The mark of Cain is on our faces, borne of suffering O, I long to see you say it's not been wrong I stand before you now, a riddle in my song The answer is that sweet refrain Unheard it always will remain Beyond our reach, beyond our gain Trapped in life's parade, a king without a crown In this joy of madness, my smile might seem a frown With talons wrought of steel, I tore the heart of doom And in one gleaming moment I saw beyond the tomb I stood where no man goes, above the din I rose Life is amusing though we are losing Drowned in tears of awe.
