Johann Strauss II - The Blue Danube Waltz

Title : Johann Strauss II , The Blue Danube Waltz Date : 1867 From Wikipedia,The Blue Danube is the common English title of An der schönen blauen Donau op. 314 (On the Beautiful Blue Danube), a waltz by Johann Strauss II, composed in 1867. Originally performed 9 February 1867 at a concert of the Wiener Männergesangsverein (Vienna Men's Choral Association), it has been one of the most consistently popular pieces of music in the classical repertoire. Its initial performance was only a mild success, however, and Strauss is reputed to have said "The devil take the waltz, my only regret is for the coda -- I wish that had been a success!" The waltz originally had an accompanying song text written by Josef Weyl. Strauss adapted it into a purely orchestral version for the World's Fair in Paris that same year, and it became a great success in this form. The instrumental version is by far the most commonly performed today. An alternate text by Franz von Gernerth, Donau so blau (Danube so blue), is also used on occasion. The sentimental Viennese connotations of the piece have made it into a sort of unofficial Austrian national anthem. It is a traditional encore piece at the annual Vienna New Year's Concert. The first few bars are also the interval signal of Osterreich Rundfunk's overseas programs. It is reported by composer Norman Lloyd in his "Golden Encyclopedia of Music" that when asked by Frau Strauss for an autograph, the composer Johannes Brahms autographed Mrs. Strauss's fan ...

Johann Strauss - Vienna Waltz

One wonderful waltz of Johann Strauss Johann Strauss II (October 25, 1825 -- June 3, 1899; also known as fully Johann Baptist Strauss, and Johann Strauss, Jr. was an Austrian composer of light music, particularly dance music and operettas. He composed over 500 waltzes, polkas, quadrilles, and other types of dance music, as well as several operettas and a ballet. In his lifetime, he was known as "The Waltz King", and was largely responsible for the popularity of the waltz in Vienna during the 19th century. Strauss was born in St. Ulrich (now a part of Neubau), the son of Johann Strauss I, another composer of dance music. His father did not wish him to become a composer, but rather a banker; however, the son defied his father's wishes, and went on to study music with the composer Joseph Drechsler and the violin with Anton Kollmann, the ballet répétiteur of the Vienna Court Opera. Strauss had two younger brothers, Josef and Eduard Strauss, who became composers of light music as well, although they were never as well-known as their elder brother. Some of Johann Strauss's most famous works include The Blue Danube, Vienna Waltz, Kaiser-Walzer, Tales from the Vienna Woods, the Tritsch-Tratsch-Polka, and the Pizzicato Polka. Among his operettas, Die Fledermaus and Der Zigeunerbaron are the most well-known.

Johann Strauss II. - Geschichten aus dem Wiener Wald (Walzer, op.325)

Get mp3 at www.planet-vienna.com This is my personal favourite orchestral version of this terrific masterpiece. Played by Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Conductor: Robert Stolz (!) Robert Stolz himself is known as the last composer of the classical viennese aera. He was the one who knew best how a Strauss waltz has to be arranged and how the orchestra has to play it. That's why I adore this recording so much! It's 100% authentic and even the Vienna Philharmonics won't do it better. I had to shorten the track coz it was longer than 10 minutes. The intro has been removed. But never mind, the zither theme of the intro is played again at the end of the waltz. ___________________ Tales from the Vienna woods ウィーンの森の物語小约翰·施特劳斯योहान स्ट्रॉस दुसरा ヨハン・シュトラウス2世

Johann Strauss II - Die Fledermaus Overture

Title : Johann Strauss II - Die Fledermaus Overture From Wikipedia, Die Fledermaus (in English: The Bat;' in French: La Chauve-souris') is an operetta composed by Johann Strauss II to a German libretto by Carl Haffner and Richard Genée. The original source for Die Fledermaus is a farce by German playwright Julius Roderich Benedix (1811--1873), Das Gefängnis (The Prison). Another source is a French vaudeville play, Le réveillon, by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy. This was first translated by Carl Haffner into a non-musical play to be produced in Vienna. However, the peculiarly French custom of the réveillon (a midnight supper party) caused problems, which were solved by the decision to adapt the play as a libretto for Johann Strauss, with the réveillon replaced by a Viennese ball. At this point Haffner's translation was handed over for adaptation to Richard Genée, who subsequently claimed not only that he had made a fresh translation from scratch but that he had never even met Haffner. The operetta premièred on April 5, 1874 at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna, Austria and has been part of the regular operetta repertoire ever since. It currently appears as number 19 on Opera America's list of the 20 most-performed operatic works in North America.

Bach - Double Violin Concerto in D minor 2nd movement, Largo

Title : Johann Sebastian Bach, Double Violin Concerto in D minor (2nd movement, Largo Ma Non Tanto (BWV 1043) From Wikipedia , The Concerto for Two Violins in D minor (BWV 1043) is perhaps one of the most famous works by JS Bach and considered among the best examples of the work of the late Baroque period. Bach wrote it in Leipzig sometime between 1730 and 1731, most likely for the Leipzig Collegium Musicum, of which he was the director. It also exists in an arrangement for two harpsichords, transposed into C minor (BWV 1062). In addition to the two soloists, the concerto is scored for strings and basso continuo. The concerto is characterized by the subtle yet expressive relationship between the violins throughout the work. The musical structure of this piece uses fugal imitation and much counterpoint. The concerto comprises three movements: Vivace Largo ma non tanto Allegro

Napoleon Marsch - Johann Strauss

When the 'French Party' organised a "Napoléon Festival" for 12 October 1854 at Karl Schwender's Casino in Rudolfsheim, the Morgen-Post announced that, on this occasion, Johann would conduct the Strauss Orchestra in the first performance of a specially composed Napoleons-Fest-Marsch (Napoléon Festival March). That November it was announced in the Viennese press that "his Majesty, the Emperor Napoléon III, has been pleased to accept the dedication of the 'Napoleon March' composed by Johann Strauss." For his part, the French monarch expressed his gratitude to the young Viennese 'Musikdirektor' by arranging for him to be presented with a valuable pearl tiepin. To this day the swaggering Napoleon-Marsch enjoys considerable success wherever it is played - although it continues to present Strauss researchers with an intriguing puzzle. For the second theme of the trio section, Johann Strauss incorporated a French "national melody", the identity of which he took with him to the grave.

Bach: Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565

Posibly my favourite Bach composition. The Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565, is a piece of organ music composed by Johann Sebastian Bach sometime between 1703 and 1707. It is one of the most famous works in the organ repertoire, and has been used in a variety of popular media ranging from film, to video games, to rock music, and ringtones. As indicated by the accepted title of the piece, the Toccata and Fugue is scored in D minor. It is not in dorian mode as the key signature supposes, as it was common practice in the Baroque period to write in leading tone accidentals rather than in the key signature. It begins with a single-voice flourish in the upper ranges of the keyboard, doubled at the octave. It then spirals toward the bottom, where a diminished seventh chord appears, built one note at a time. This resolves into a D major chord, taken from the parallel major mode. The subject of the four-voice fugue is made up entirely of sixteenth notes, with an implied pedal point set against a brief melodic subject that first falls, then rises. The second entry starts in the sub-dominant key rather than the dominant key. Although unusual for a Bach fugue, this is a real answer and is appropriate following a subject that progresses from V to I and then to V below I by a leap. A straightforward dominant answer would sound atonal and odd in a Baroque piece. After the final entry of the fugal melody, the composition resolves to the key's corresponding major, B-flat, that is ...

Kalman Imre Cello Johann Sebastian Bach: Chaconne part 2

Johann Sebastian Bach: Chaconne in d-minor. part 2 www.kalmanimre.hu Making this video recording in April 2008 was in fact only an attempt for me to realize the performance of the Bach Chaconne on the cello. I looked upon this idea as an exciting and honorific challenge. But ever since, approx. 30 live performances shaped and hopefully improved the level of that earlier first attempt. Recently, I took the trouble and courage to combine these experiences with my skill of cello playing, and put them on paper. My goal was to make this handwritten score available for everyone who would be interested. The 3rd version of the of the handwritten score, which is also included in the file, deserves special attention. From the aspect of the left hand's orientation, it focuses on a unique methodology that was never explained before. The "assisting tone system" which is built-into the piece's rhythmical structure is the work of three decades. This system makes the practicing procedure more enjoyable. It turns the exhausting and often pointless practice hours into fun. Not to mention the drastic time savings... I will gladly give help and suggestions or advice to anyone regarding this particular way of practice. The idea of the 4 cello transcription of JSBach's D-minor Toccata occurred to me long time ago, but took me until now to finally realize it. Transcribing this composition for various musical instruments is common nowadays, but if we recall the breathtaking sound of the unique ...

Johann Sebastian Bach - Brandenburg Concertos, BWV 1046, 1047, 1048, 1049, 1050 and 1051 (complete)

Notice: This video is only for cultural purposes. About Brandenburg Concertos The Brandenburg concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach (BWV 1046--1051, original title: Six Concerts à plusieurs instruments) are a collection of six instrumental works presented by Bach to Christian Ludwig, margrave of Brandenburg-Schwedt, in 1721 (though probably composed earlier). They are widely regarded as among the finest musical compositions of the Baroque era. Bach's dedication to the Margrave was dated 24 March 1721. Most likely, Bach composed the concertos over several years while Kapellmeister at Köthen, and possibly extending back to his employment at Weimar (1708--17). The first sentence of Bach's dedication reads: As I had the good fortune a few years ago to be heard by Your Royal Highness, at Your Highness's commands, and as I noticed then that Your Highness took some pleasure in the little talents which Heaven has given me for Music, and as in taking Leave of Your Royal Highness, Your Highness deigned to honour me with the command to send Your Highness some pieces of my Composition: I have in accordance with Your Highness's most gracious orders taken the liberty of rendering my most humble duty to Your Royal Highness with the present Concertos, which I have adapted to several instruments; begging Your Highness most humbly not to judge their imperfection with the rigor of that discriminating and sensitive taste, which everyone knows Him to have for musical works, but rather to take ...
