Inner city life, inner city pressure The concrete world is starting to get ya The city is alive, the city is expanding, Living in the city can be demanding, You've pawned everything, everything you own, Your toothbrush, jar, and a camera phone You don't know where you're going You cross the street You don't know why you did, You walk back across the street. Standing in the sitting room, totally skint And your favorite jersey is covered in lint You want to sit down, but you sold your chair So you just stand there You just stand there You just stand there Inner Inner city Inner city pressure Inner city pressure Counting coins on the counter of the 7-11, From a quarter past six 'til a quarter to seven, The manager Bevan starts to abuse me Hey man, I just want some Muesli, Neon signs, hidden messages, Questions, answers, fetishes, You know you're not in high finance, Considering getting second hand underpants, Check your mind, how'd it get so bad? What happened to those other underpants you had, Look in your pockets, haven't found a cent yet, Landlords on your balls, have you paid your rent yet? Inner Inner city Inner city pressure Inner city pressure So you think maybe you'll be a prostitute, Just to pay for your lessons, you're learning the flute, The ladies won't pay you very much for this, Looks like you'll never be a concert flautist, You don't measure up to the expectation When you're unemployed there's no vacation No one cares, no one sympathizes You just stay home and ...

This is a video I made using the classic Marvin Gaye song, "Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)". At the beginning of the video, I wanted to throw the viewer right into the time frame of the video flashing the notable leaders who were assassinated during the 1960s such as MLK, Malcolm X, JFK and Robert Kennedy. The rest of the video was used to try and enhance Marvin's lyrics of poverty, racial tension, the Vietnam War and other issues of that specific time. Its ironic how some of these same issues still exist today only through different titles of propaganda. I hope you enjoy and take care.

"Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)" is a song by Marvin Gaye, released as the third and final single from his 1971 landmark album, What's Going On. Written by Gaye and James Nyx, the song depicted the ghettos of inner-city America as it discussed how the bleak situation would lead to someone wanting to holler and throw ones hands up. The song was recorded in a mellow funk style with Gaye playing piano. Several of the Funk Brothers also contributed, including Eddie "Bongo" Brown, and bassist Bob Babbitt. The song helped Gaye make history by being one of the few artists to have three or more Top 10 songs off Billboard's Pop Singles chart peaking at #9 and one of the first to have three consecutive #1 hits on Billboard's R&B Singles chart where it stayed for two weeks. Although not certified by the RIAA at that time, all three releases from the What's Going On album gained Gold status by selling over a million copies in the United States. The final minute of the song (and of the album) is a reprise to the theme of "What's Going On", the album's first song. Extended stereo mix carried out from different mixes availlable (radio edit, Juan Atkinson mixes, etc.) Inner City is an American house- and techno-music group formed in Detroit in 1987. The group is composed of producer and composer Kevin Saunderson and Chicago native Paris Grey. Kevin Saunderson is renowned as one of the Belleville Three—along with Juan Atkins and Derrick May)—high school friends who later originated the Detroit Techno sound. Inner City topped dancing charts in America and Britain 11 times, hit the UK Top 40 eight times and sold around 6 million records. The group is best known for its early dancefloor-pop music crossover tracks "Big Fun" (UK #8, US Dance #1) and "Good Life" (UK #4, US Dance #1). Other hits include "Do You Love What You Feel" (UK #16, US Dance #1) and "Whatcha Gonna Do with My Lovin'" (UK #12, US Dance #8). The music videos to these songs received significant airplay throughout the world. Later work introduced a hybrid of techno, jazz and swing beats with a more soulful sound in the vein of downtempo British groups such as Soul II Soul and Massive Attack. The group recorded three albums for Virgin/EMI Records and one single for Columbia/SME Records.
