Christmas 1984 is the first holiday album the Mannheim Steamroller released, and it remains their definitive work. Chip Davis never strayed from the clean, airy instrumental style that he exhibits here (and earlier perfected on his Fresh Aire albums), but it is here where it all sounded fresh. Percy Faith (April 7, 1908 -- February 9, 1976), was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. After 1940, he moved to Chicago, becoming a naturalized US citizen in 1945. He died in Encino, California, and is iinterred in Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery, Culver City, California. Faith was a band-leader, orchestrator, and composer best known for his arrangements of standard tunes using lush string sections and female choruses. The latter sometimes sang, most often they just vocalized without words. Faith's live orchestra was a staple of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's live-music broadcasts from 1938 to 1940. After moving to the US, Faith made many recordings for Voice of America. After working briefly for Decca Records, he went to work for Mitch Miller at Columbia Records. There, he turned out dozens of albums and provided arrangements for many of the pop singers of the 1950s. The use of the female chorus really became a Percy Faith signature with his mid-late 1960's "Young Lovers" projects; it was also used in his final Holiday album, "Christmas Is," released in 1967. Faith's most famous and best-remembered recordings are "Delicado" (1952), "Moulin Rouge" (1953) and "Theme from A Summer Place" (1960).
"Holiday" is a song by the Bee Gees. The song is haunting, even eerie, having been composed primarily in the minor key with a strong organ presence. Brothers Barry Gibb and Robin Gibb who also wrote the song share lead vocals. It was not released as a single in their native United Kingdom as Polydor UK released the single "World" from their next album Horizontal, but was released in the US in September 1967. It appeared on the album Bee Gees' 1st[1] and also on the Bee Gees first platinum (a million copies sold) album Best of the Bee Gees that was released in 1969.

This album is one of the few to receive a perfect "5 Mics" rating from both The Source Magazine and XXL. Born: January 25, 1938 Few R&B singers have endured tragic travails on the monumental level that Etta James has and remain on earth to talk about it. The lady's no shrinking violet; her autobiography, -Rage to Survive, describes her past (including numerous drug addictions) in sordid detail. But her personal problems have seldom affected her singing. James has hung in there from the age of R&B and doo wop in the mid-'50s through soul's late-'60s heyday and right up into the '90s and 2000s (where her 1994 disc Mystery Lady paid loving jazz-based tribute to one of her idols, Billie Holiday). Etta James' voice has deepened over the years, coarsened more than a little, but still conveys remarkable passion and pain. Jamesetta Hawkins was a child gospel prodigy, singing in her Los Angeles Baptist church choir (and over the radio) when she was only five years old under the tutelage of Professor James Earle Hines. She moved to San Francisco in 1950, soon teaming with two other girls to form a singing group. When she was 14, bandleader Johnny Otis gave the trio an audition. He particularly dug their answer song to Hank Ballard & the Midnighters' "Work With Me Annie." Against her mother's wishes, the young singer embarked for LA to record "Roll With Me Henry" with the Otis band and vocalist Richard Berry in 1954 for Modern Records. "Dreadlock Holiday" is a song by 10cc, from their 1978 album, Bloody Tourists. It was written by Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman and was the lead single from the band's 1978 album, Bloody Tourists. The lyrics, about a white man lost in Jamaica, were based on a true story told by Moody Blues vocalist Justin Hayward about an experience he had had in Barbados; it was a rare excursion into reggae for the act. It became the act's third and final number one single in the UK, spending a single week at the top in September 1978. The single peaked at #44 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the USA.
