Cry Freedom is a 1987 feature film directed by Richard Attenborough, set in the late 1970s, during the apartheid era of South Africa. The film was shot in neighbouring Zimbabwe, and, although not banned in South Africa, cinemas showing the films were faced with bomb threats. According to the Internet Movie Database, the film was seized by authorities on July 29, 1988. In some cases, there were reports that prints of the films were wrenched off the cinema projectors and the film remained unseen in South Africa until 1991.

From the album 'Volcano'. ''CRY FREEDOM was founded 1970 at a rock festival in Nürnberg. Four musicians featuring Rudolf 'Rudi' Madsius (guitars and vocals) soon started touring all over in Germany - for example as the opening act for bands like Free, Eric Bourdon and The Rattles. After some time they happened to be confrontated with the decision to work as professionals and changes with the line-up occured as the consequence. Klaus Braun (drums) and Gerhard Billmann (keyboards) joined and together with Madsius they became the band's core further on also working with several brass players. 1976 they succeeded to release the first album named 'Volcano' - stylistically a straight jazz rock/fusion effort with a slight krautrock touch. The subsequent releases 'Sunny Day' (1979) and 'Nobody's Fool' (1980) however are described as more commercial jazz-funk and less inspired. CRY FREEDOM split up 1983 and Madsius went on making music with other bands until today.''
