Lord's Resistance Army in Obo, Central African Republic

Learn more: pulitzercenter.org Examining the impact the Lord's Resistance Army's has had on the town of Obo in the Central African Republic, and the problems its residents still face. The LRA has a long history of kidnapping. Adolescent boys are easily molded into killers through fear and psychological manipulation. And Joseph Kony rewards loyal commanders with gifts of young girls, who, in turn, bear the children that will one day grow up to perpetuate the macabre system. Following the raid on Obo, LRA commanders carried out a triage of their hostages. Men were separated from women, young from old. A number of women recall being asked if they'd already given birth to children. Those who had were released. Central African Republic's street children - 09 Jul 07

The Central African Republic is one of the least developed countries in the world and one of the least stable since it gained independence from France in 1960. The country has been wracked by internal conflict and a succession of coups. It's the sixth poorest nation in the world despite its vast unexploited mineral wealth of gold, diamonds and uranium. Amid the poverty, more than 3-thousand children sleep on the streets of the capital Bangui, every night. Al Jazeera's Andrew Simmons reports from the city streets.

Offering Processional - Central African Republic

This video is part of an Advent curriculum, developed by the ELCA TX-LA Gulf Coast Synod, called "Faith Together: Come, Lord Jesus." The curriculum celebrates the synod's global partnerships with the Lutheran Churches of Peru and the Central African Republic, and explores the question, "What does it mean when the church prays, 'Come, Lord Jesus!'" In the Lutheran Church of the CAR, the people process their offering forward with music and dancing. The women and girls put their offering in one basket and the men and boys in another. This is meant to be quite joyous! Often, on the next Sunday, it is announced which side gave more, the men or the women, and a loud cheer goes up for whichever side won.

Hello Central africans , I am from Angola, I was playing with the african map and i did this. This is a proposal of new country for africa. I have chosen this countries because these are the pooer countries on the planet with a great potentional. The territory which is now : Angola Republic of Congo Democratic REpublic of Congo Gabon Equatorial Guinea Sao Tome and Principe Zambia Zimbabwe Rwanda Burundi Uganda Malawi kenya Tanzania Mozambique Madagascar remember the History of USA, , america used to be devided into spanish, german, british, french etc territories, and someone had a great idea to unite all these states and they called it United States of America. today America is a powerful and succesful country, has a great economy but yes they went through alot of wars to make it right. What if we Central africans do the same? we dont have to go through wars because before the europeans came to africa there were no borders. and the way borders were done, it left some african country dependant of other countries because they cant use the sea. zimbabwe and zambia for example have to ask for south africa to help import goods. I gave this new african country a name.."United States of Central Africa" just to refer to the map.. it could be another name. but then what oficial language should it be? please put in mind that native african language wouldnt work because there would be alot of hostility because everyone would choose a native language of their previous country or an ...

The public face of the Central African Republic is one that is both politically brutal and environmentally savage, troubled by recurrent Harmattan winds. Yet the private face of this country is one with an attractive countenance of forests, waterfalls and magnificent national parks that teem with wildlife. Despite the dangers that lurk in a city such as Bangui, the country's capital is friendly, with a strong emphasis on arts and crafts. ********** This description is from WORLDTRAVELGUIDE. Central African Republic: Nutritional Emergency in the Southwest

This child is suffering from kwashiorkor, a form of severe malnutrition. MSF teams have set up four nutritional treatment projects, including this one in a hospital in Boda. A food crisis has increased the number of malnutrition cases here in the southwest region of the Central African Republic. The people who live here are already poor and are experiencing the full brunt of an economic crisis, specifically in the mining sector. MSF has treated 1800 patients in two months. In addition to malnutrition, many suffer from other health problems including malaria, diarrhea and tuberculosis. Beyond the nutritional emergency, people here have other health needs that require a broader response.
