We took our cameras with us and a new tune that we created just for the occasion. Thanks to a number of subscribers for the suggestion to remake this epic classical piece by Carl Orff! It was one of three possibilities we were considering when writing with the race track in mind. In the end it was no contest; especially when we read the English transition of the Latin lyrics in the piece -- which speak of fate like a "wheel" and a "driving force!" Our version of O Fortuna was so much fun to create that it was done in a matter of three days (we couldn't let ourselves do anything else until it was finished). It consists of 6 piano tracks, 43 acoustic cello tracks, 3 percussion tracks, and 48 vocal tracks. Carmina Burana, Latin for "Songs from Benediktbeuern", is the name given to a manuscript of 254 poems and dramatic texts from the 11th or 12th century, although some are from the 13th century. The pieces were written almost entirely in Medieval Latin; a few in Middle High German, and some with traces of Old French or Provençal. Many are macaronic, a mixture of Latin and German or French vernacular. They were written by students and clergy when the Latin idiom was the lingua franca across Italy and western Europe for travelling scholars, universities and theologians. Most of the poems and songs appear to be the work of Goliards, clergy (mostly students) who sent up and satirized the Church. The collection preserves the works of a number of poets, including Peter of Blois, Walter of Châtillon and the anonymous one, referred to as the Archpoet. The collection was found in 1803 in the Bavarian monastery of Benediktbeuern and is now housed in the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek in Munich. Along with the Carmina Cantabrigiensia, the Carmina Burana is the most important collection of Goliard and vagabond songs. The manuscripts reflect an 'international' European movement, with songs originating from the following countries, Occitanie, France, England, Scotland, Switzerland, Aragon, Castille, Germany.

In Trutina, is a delightful aria from part III of Carmina Burana, "The court of love" by Carl Orff. The work is based on a book of 13th century poems, discovered in 1803, at the Benedictine abbey of Benediktbeuern, south of Munich in the Bavarian region. It contains some 250 poems, mostly in Latin, and the manuscript is perhaps the most important source for Latin secular poetry, dating from this period. The original latin text is shown, along with a full English translation. This performance was recorded in 1984, by the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and Choir, conducted by Riccardo Chailly, with Sylvia Greenberg, soprano. It is in my opinion the finest rendition of this most divine work. Enjoy!

BLACK SESAME SEED ICE CREAM RECIPE 3/4 cup heavy cream 3 egg yolks 1/2 cup organic honey 3/4 cup 2% organic milk 3 tablespoons kuro goma (black sesame seeds) Roast the sesame seeds in a pan. Let cool and then coarsely grind. Heat the milk in a saucepan until it almost boils. Reduce heat to low. Stir together the egg yolks and honey. Add one tablespoon of the milk to the egg mixture to temper it (warm the mixture up to the same temperature as the milk so that the eggs dont scramble).
