Arturs Irbe Carolina Hurricanes 2002 Random NHL playoff tribute thing....
Again the sound as usual is hard to hear. Not much to pick from really... I dont think there was a lot of exciting stuff going on. Irbe was just really solid per say I think. So he(and the Carolina defense)didnt give way to much excitement I guess. To bad... No insane split saves that I remember from this playoff run, or insane floppyness. Just irbe playing the angles really well, and playing very solid through out more or less... And irbe was never one for showboating with those cliche glove saves. Very calm,cool, nonchalant dude. Oh well definitely a bummer though. I do love me some split saves. shrug Of course this was also the year of the conn smythe travesty. How irbe did not win I do not know. All I can say is, was lidstrom more valuable then irbe in the playoffs? Whats worse even saying that though, at the end of the playoffs the announcers were saying irbe wasnt even in the top 5 in votes or some bs?? WTF??? I really want to see these votes. I hope thats a lie. Every other team that year to my knowledge was scored on at least 5 or more times.(the only other team that wasnt was phili who got knocked out first round)... And irbe was only scored on four times ONCE. Again every other team that year had at least 5 or more goals against them in a game or more. Carolina was the only team that didnt. Certainly that is a tribute to there defense per say, irbe of course as well. And seriously do we even need to compare the wings of that year ala ghetto all star team that <b>...</b>

Note I did not make this video. Taken from that one NHL site. But doesnt look like anyone else was going to put it up, so I took the trouble myself of converting it and putting it to youtube shrug. I wish I could get all those larionov videos from his one wine site. But I guess they were all taken down. To bad.... Anyway I think its great, that one of the things they even talk about in this video is irbes splits.. They may as well just call it "THE SPLITS"... And when ever that comes up irbe must come to mind. Truely no one did it better. I mean irbe gets down low for them. REAL FUCKING LOW. Like he might need help getting back up low. Might not be having kids anymore low. In the sake of purely for fun, and making the game look "fun" to say, I dont think there was any save irbe was not capable of making look awesome. I think the only thing a casual fan could knock against irbe purely again in terms of fun, is he didnt lend himself to outrageous looking glove saves, which clichely seem to be a thing that is popular for being a "cool looking save". Irbes pad stack wasnt the most beautiful in the bizz ethier, but maybe that wasnt his fault just his stature. It was just sorta there. But anything else, split save, snow man, windmill, some crazy dive, split save dues, neo split save rave, shin split save, and the famous "omg let me mishandle the puck and so I can go out of my way to make a " split save. Speaking of puck handling. Its funny irbe got a lot of shit for his puck <b>...</b>

Arturs Maskats Tango (2)
Composer Arturs Maskats was born in Valmiera, Latvia, in 1957, and currently serves as a Professor of Composition at the Jazeps Vitols Academy of Music in Riga. His Tango, composed in 2002, was selected as one of the six finalists (out of more than 1000 entries) at the prestigious British "Masterprize" competition in 2003. Maskats wrote, "Tango -- in taverns, in city streets flashing with midnight lights, and tango -- in the greatest theatres, the most illustrious concert houses. Tangos have been written by Stravinsky, Ravel, Shostakovich, even our own Janis Medins, and by many, many others. Astor Piazzolla -- the classic writer of tangos, one of the late 20th century's most distinctive musical voices. I wanted to unite all these many facets of tango in one dramatic story for symphony orchestra. Ravel did something on these lines at the beginning of the 20th century with the waltz. I would like to try it out with the tango!"

Irbe makes a split save that can only be said to be... "like wall".... a very small wall mind you... A wall very open to aerial attacks.... But a wall none the less. Legend has it that after saves like these, Richter and hasek cried themselves to sleep for many nights. With nightmares of there split saves not being up to par with the grea..... wall one? On another random note I finally got a chance to play the genisis version of all star hockey. If anyone recalls Irbe is the WORST rated goalie in this whole game. Yet is the cover star, has his own intermission report everything. Well in the genisis version he is basically the best goalie in the game. Gets around a 95 in everything besides puckhandleing. Truely a more deserving rating! lol I belive this save was also used durning a beer commerical for the 94-95 season as well. lol
