The Altamont Speedway Free Festival was an infamous rock concert held on Saturday, December 6, 1969, at the Altamont Speedway in northern California, between Tracy and Livermore. Headlined and organized by The Rolling Stones, it also featured, in order of appearance: Santana, Jefferson Airplane, The Flying Burrito Brothers, and Crosby, Stills & Nash, with the Rolling Stones taking the stage as the final act. The Grateful Dead were also scheduled to perform, but declined to play shortly before their scheduled appearance due to the increasing violence at the venue. That's the way things went at Altamont so badly that the Grateful Dead, prime organizers and movers of the festival, didn't even get to play. Approximately 300000 people attended the concert, and some anticipated that it would be a "Woodstock West." The event is best known for having been marred by considerable violence, including one homicide and three accidental deaths: two caused by a hit-and-run car accident and one by drowning in an irrigation canal. Four births were reported during the event as well.Lead singer Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones (who had already been punched by a concertgoer within seconds of emerging from his helicopter)was visibly intimidated by the unruly situation, urging everyone to "Just be cool down in the front there, don't push around." Within a minute of starting their third song, "Sympathy for the Devil", a fight erupted in the front of the crowd, at the foot of the stage. After a ...

"Save Me (From Myself)" was filmed over the course of one day (about 7 hours) in a warehouse in Hollywood literally a stones throw away from the Capitol Records Building. Everything you see in the video was done "In Camera"... there was no Post Production FX added whatsoever. All of the Psychedelic Lighting Effects were performed "Live" by Sherry Lee and Blues Williams while we filmed the band playing back to their tune. Sherry used an "old school" Overhead Projector and a couple of clock faces filled with water, mineral oil and candy dyes to achieve the liquid light/psychedelic/Fillmore Era effects. Blues used an Opaque Projector with an assortment of transparencies that we designed a few days before the shoot. A Video Projector and a couple of strobes that the band brought were also used, but other than that there were no other lights. We filmed the band playing together and then separately to ...

"Soul for Sale" was filmed over the course of one day (something like 5 hours total) at a recording studio in the San Fernando Valley. Although I can't tell you the name of the studio, I can give you hints. It is owned by one of the biggest Rock Stars in the world who has an affection for recording to Analog Tape. Look closely in the video for clues (the shot of the row of Guitars in the control should be a dead giveaway). Anyway, it was a pretty painless shoot. The band setup in the Live Room and played back to the song. OK. Not really. Most of the shots in the video are of the band jamming out other things BESIDES the song "Soul for Sale". If I remember correctly they only played along to the song 2-3 times. Maybe less. But it worked as my idea for the tune was really NOT to sync them up to what is actually being heard over your speakers. I wanted the visuals to be much looser. I believe the only part that was semi-synced up to the tune is Harry playing that opening drum fill ...

Video footage from the 24 hours of LeMons race on Altemont Raceway, Oct. 7-8, 2006. The crowd. The spectacle. The pall of blue smoke and roasted clutch discs. In all motorsport, no event captures the universal human need to whale on old crapcans and hoover down greasy barbecue like the 24 Hours of LeMons. This endurance race is for cars purchased, fixed up, and track-prepped for a total of 500 bucks or less--and before reaching the grid, participants had to survive the Old-Lady Mannequin Slalom, the Baby-Carriage Braking Test, the Brick On the Gas Pedal Challenge, and similar qualifying rounds. I mean, seriously--what's not to like? www.24hoursoflemons.com
