Making an Acoustic Bass Guitar (photo montage)
This is a photo journal of my process in creating an Acoustic Bass Guitar. I started the guitar on the 2nd of January 09. I finished most of it in February, then did the finishing touches in May. Today i finally stringed the guitar, so i thought i'd make this video. Hope you guys enjoy. Song choice was the first thing i found on my computer. Excuse my hair in some of the pics, some days i just woke up and started working on the guitar. At the end is another guitar (i didn't make it) but i collaged it with a Red Hot Chili Pepper photo montage.

How Insensitive (Insensatez) - Solo Acoustic Bass
Me playing a solo version of "Insensatez", by Antônio Carlos Jobim. It's a work in progress - playing chord melodies and soloing like a solo jazz guitarist would. Played on my Kinal Kompact 6-string Acoustic Bass. Strung C#F#BEAD (standard 6-string bass up a whole step) with Thomastik-Infeld Acousticores. Recorded with a blend of the piezos and a mic'd signal.

Double Thumping On Acoustic Bass (I Think I Figured It Out!)
When I first tried double thumping on the acoustic, I got really frustrated because I couldn't do it. I concluded that because it lacks a pick up system, which I'm very reliant on for double thumping, this is what hindered me from transferring the technique from electric to acoustic. But, with sticking with it and determination, I think I figured it out (it's all in the shoulder), so I would like to share that with you. Also, read 'Stone Butch Blues' by Leslie Feinberg - it's an awesome novel about alienation in relation to sexual identity. Check it out - I highly recommend it!

Harley Benton acoustic bass fretless conversion review and test.
My new toy. bought on e bay for 80 quid. converted to fretless at a cost of 50 quid. i could have bought a new 5 string fretless one for 150! mental i know but they dont make a 4 string left handed and this way i get fret markers on the neck, plus having seen the set ups that come with these when shipped i would have had to spend loads extra on getting it set up properly. Terrible sound quality i'm afraid my main mike was bust so this was all picked up by the webcam default mic.

Check out this acoustic demo on APHEX's killer 1402 Bass Xciter. You'd think it was made specifically for acoustic the way it cleans up and rounds out the tone. In this demo APHEX's Wayne LaFarr shows you how to dial in your guitar's specific tonal resonant points and then Tim Thompson plays a fingerstyle arrangement of the Flintstones. Listen to difference when the effect is in/out. (Keep in mind that YouTube sound compression thins out the quality of our audio -- you'll still hear the difference, though!)

Solo 6-string Acoustic Bass
A couple clips of me playing my 6-string Kinal Kompact Acoustic Bass. This time tuned F#BEADG (the EADG are up an octave from a standard bass), strung with a mix of two Sterling silver wrapped gut cello strings, a plain gut cello string, and three plain gut bass viol de Gamba strings. Recorded with a mix of the piezos and an external condenser mic.
