Found by a researcher in the Pathe vaults, this clip from 1922 shows that 90 years ago, mobile phone technology and music on the move was not only being thought of but being trialled. Henry Miller It's because of the truth of the Henry Miller statement that I commemorate Symrna & it victims by highlighting the 1978 Greek film by Nikos Koundouros called "1922", which tries to give some idea of what happened to it's Greek & Armenian population. No fictional film can convey the real horrors of what really happen there, yet even so the film is so harrowing that the only scene I can really show is this clip of where a Greek in hiding goes to hand himself over to a Turkish general. For further accounts of this all but forgotten tragedy, I recommend the Marjorie Housepian Dobkin book "Smyrna 1922: The Destruction of a City", and also the book "The Blight of Asia" written by George Horton, who was the American Consul at the time & an eyewitness to the terrible events.

Princess Mary, the Princess Royal (1897-1965) was the only daughter of King George V and Queen Mary and the sister of Princes Edward and Albert, later Edward VIII and George VI (of King's Speech fame). Her marriage to Viscount Lascelles, 6th Earl of Harewood, was probably the biggest British newsreel story of the decade. For this film Topical Budget employed fifteen cameramen along the route, paying in excess of £75000 in today's money for the best camera positions. Hand cranked newsreel footage (silent) of the Knickerbocker Theater disaster during the worst snowstorm in Washington DC history, January 27-28, 1922. History in Audio Recording: The only working pallophone in the world(2010), plays back the earliest radio station recordings ever made. It used light bouncing off a tiny mirror to expose a strip of film. A photoelectric cell is used to read the recordings. The film recorded waveforms of sound as tiny black stripes. Demonstration on kodak acetate film. Invented by Charles Hoxie, this lead to the RCA Photophone motion picture system. The machine was built by Russ DeMuth of the GE Global Research Center in 2009-2010. Research and presentation by Chris Hunter of the Schenectady Museum. WGY was recorded in 1922, hear the NBC chimes which started at WGY Radio Station. WGY reached an audience as far away as South Africa and was the voice of General Electric. The pallophotophone preceded magnetic recording. A strip of audio was used along side film to do sound with film. By 1927 the "Jazz Singer" came out which was the first sound film in the entertainment industry.

Henry Burr (Jan.15,1882 - April 6,1941) was a Canadian singer of popular songs from the early part of the early 20th century, early radio performer and producer. He was born Harry Haley McClaskey and used Henry Burr as one of his many pseudonyms, in addition to Irving Gillette, Harry Haley, Henry Gillette, Alfred Alexander, Robert Rice, Carl Ely, Harry Barr, Frank Knapp, Harry Haley, Al King, and Shamus McClaskey.[ He was one of the first singers to make popular acoustic recordings and one of the most prolific recording artists of all time, with more than 12000 recordings by his own estimate. A tenor, he performed as a soloist and also in duets, trios and quartets. His most famous collaboration was the Peerless Quartet. His vocal talents were recognized early and by the age 13 he was performing as a boy tenor with the Artillery Band in the nearby city of Saint John. Perhaps doubting that he could make a career in music, he later attended Mt. Allison Academy in Sackville, New Brunswick, and afterwards worked for his father. On April 14, 1901, he appeared at the opera house in Saint John in his first notable concert with the Scottish soprano Jessie MacLachlan. On September 30, 1901 he was discovered by the Metropolitan Opera baritone Giuseppe Campanari who was in St. John to perform at the St. John Opera House. Campanari insisted that McClaskey go to New York for musical training. Emboldened by Campanari's endorsement, McClaskey ventured to New York in 1902, where he began <b>...</b>

Nikolai Roslavets (1881-1944) is sometimes called the "Russian Schoenberg" and was certainly the first Russian composer to use a system of tone organization similar to Schoenberg's serialism. Before the 1917 revolution, Roslavets was regarded as a cutting-edge composer comparable to Scriabin. Interestingly, Marc-Andre Hamelin describes Roslavets's music as "Scriabin on acid." After the revolution and the formation of the RAPM (Russian Association of Proletarian Musicians), Roslavets was criticized and harrassed for his modernism. In the late 1920s, he left the Communist Party and in 1931 moved to Tashkent. There he conducted for a music theater and composed simple pieces in accordance with Socialist Realism. He died in obscurity and his name and music was mostly forgotten until the 1970s.
